We're still putting the finishing touches on our laundry room, but my "theme" for the room is old laundry products and cotton. It was a very "gray" day outside when I took these photos, so I'm sorry that this photo looks a little dreary.
I put a coat of gray paint over the canvas. Once it was dry, I sanded over the surface lightly so it would have a more aged look, then painted a thin coat of glue over the page to attach it to the canvas. I let that dry for several hours, then put another coat of glue over the top and attached some strips of cotton twill tape around the corners to finish it off.
I'm looking forward to the completion of the laundry room, so you can see this project, the laundry bag I showed you earlier, and several other projects - all finished and in their places!
You can create one for yourself, with one of the antique Ivory soap images I shared yesterday.
Next, I decided to use one of my antique maps to put on another canvas.
This time, I painted just the sides brown and distressed them. I have a book from the late 1800's called, "Our Growing World", which is falling apart, so it seemed like a good combination to use a few of those pages behind the world map. In addition to selling antique maps in my shop, I'll be adding the option for customers to purchase maps on canvases, like this one.
Blessings,
Angie

The map canvas would look great in a home library. Love the vintage pages.
ReplyDeleteLove what you do with the graphics. Great idea using the book pages behind the map. Looks great. Your bathroom will look good with the old advertisements in there.

The vintage map looks great with the old ephemera used as matting! Love the idea! xo Pam
ReplyDeleteHi Angie,
ReplyDeleteLove your canvas projects. I have also done these using old graphics and embellishments for a bathroom redo. Isn't it fun. Yours turned out fabulous. Love the map too.
Thank you for sharing your talents. Have a blessed day. Hugs, Celestina Marie
Fabulous~what a wonderful idea and look!
ReplyDeleteLove both pieces but really do like the world map. Maps are my new favorite thing as well as old jars and bottles. Your blog is just the type I like to read and get inspiration from. And your old graphics and advertisements! Love, love love!!
ReplyDeleteThese are both so pretty -- I don't have any canvas but I do have old book covers I've saved from book page projects. I wonder if that would work -- maybe paint them with chalk paint and go from there? Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYour laundry room is going to be beautiful! I love what you did with the map....its something special and very unique.
ReplyDeleteYou are inspirational!:)
