  3. I read a little from the book of Luke, although not nearly as much as I wish I had. I also started listening to a debate between Ray Comfort and atheist, Ron Barrier - available to listen to online here - http://www.wayofthemaster.com/audiolessons.shtml

  4. I was reading in John this week. I thought the part in chapter 2 where he is at the wedding and his mother is there. In the NIV it says: verse 4: When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." verse 4: "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." verse 5: His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

I just thought this was interesting. To see that Jesus' time had not come, yet, his mother only had to state the obvious (and imply a request) and his power was unleashed. Did she alter the course of the beginning of his ministry with her implied plea? She didn't even ask him to do anything. She simply stated that they had no more wine. With a couple of simple commands by Jesus to the servants, the water was changed to wine without so much as a touch from him. Jesus was not immoveable. Makes you consider the power of our requests, the ability to change the course of things by speaking, perhaps just stating the obvious to Jesus, like his mom did.

  8. As our family goes through a difficult time, God has been faithfully supplying encouragement and wisdom through his word. One passage in particular grabbed me this week, Isaiah 33:5-6, 'The Lord is exalted for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness. He will be the SURE FOUNDATION FOR YOUR TIMES, a rich store of SALVATION and WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE; the FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE KEY TO THIS TREASURE. (Emphasis mine :) What a comfort to know that if we fear him and seek him -- He will be a SURE foundation for OUR times, no matter what they are!

  10. While I often do a Sunday scripture post (and have this week) - what struck me in my bible reading was the story of Samuel and Saul in I Sam. 15. Oh my! Saul disobeyed God (he sinned!) - but wanted to act like it was alright and even gave good religious reasons for what he did. Samuel did not overlook it or pretend he didn't know about it. He addressed it and even went so far as to refrain an offer to worship w/ Saul. But after Saul acknowledged his sin and repented - then Samuel did go and worship w/ him. This picture is far from how the church today often deals with disobedience to God's Word. That's some of what I was thinking on this week :) ~Joyce
