Sonday - {The Great Physician}

Hope you enjoy this old hymn.  I'm unfamiliar with it,
but would love to hear it played on the piano.
Here's the same song, from another really old hymn book.
Blessings,
Angie

  2. This week I began reading from the book of Luke. A few things I wondered about as I was reading was how much Mary and Joseph really understood about who Jesus was. It appears that the angel explained that “that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” Yet, in ch. 2, it says, “And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him” and later in that chapter it says, “And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.” I also wonder at what point Jesus knew exactly who he was – whether it was innate to him from birth, or whether that knowledge came as he matured and was in prayer with God, the Father. Any thoughts on this, anyone?

  4. Hi Angie, I always felt that their questions were due to the continual revelation of who God is and marveling at all that they never knew. I'm sure that knowing you will be the parents of the Son of God and the actual understanding of that on a day to day basis, when He came to live in their world first hand, was a marvel. They probably always thought they knew and understood God, but came to realize how "wonderful are your works, oh God..." as it says in the Psalms (92:5). Like you, I too wonder if Jesus knew who He was was from birth.

    I was reading 1 Peter through to 1 John this week. The last verses of 2 Peter 3 (17,18) stuck with me...the importance of being on guard and not allowing ourselves to be deceived by "the error of lawless men" NIV ("unprincipled men" in New American Standard). The answer it says is to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." In other words, knowing truth, God's truth prevents deception that would otherwise cause us to fall from our secure position in Him This is happening all around us by the moment in our culture. People are dropping like flies because they have been deceived. They have become distracted and lured away. They've stopped reading God's word, praying, gathering with believers, holding onto the truth. They have been retrained - history is being rewritten, and tradition is being tossed to the wayside. Standing on the timeless truths of God's word would bring amazing restoration to any who would lean again on His faithfulness and amazing strength.

    Thanks for taking the time to host this, Angie. Sorry I don't have a post about this to link to. My day got away from me with other projects yesterday.
