Bel Monili GIVEAWAY - Miner's Tag Necklace

I have some of the best sponsors at Knick of Time, with products that are beautiful and have vintage timeless appeal.  My newest sponsor, Lucy from Bel Monili, creates gorgeous jewelry from vintage and repurposed items and today she's offering one of her lovely Miner's Tag Necklaces that you could win!
In the early 1900's, when the mines were flourishing, each miner marked his entrance to the mine by placing a numbered tagover the hook.  By doing this, everyone knew which miners where down in the mine.  When all the tags were off the hook at the end of the day, all the miners were safely out of the mine.
Each of these tags represents a piece of American history.

The necklace the winner will receive will come on a 24" ball chain - the number will vary from photo.

  13. They were still handing them out in mines in the 1980's in the UK. There were more modern electroic ways of tallying the face workers, but the miners still needed to carry these. The reason was rather mcabre; in an accident, the disk had a good chance of surviving a rock fall or explosion so someone could be identified.

    A friend of mine worked in the wages office at a colliery in the UK, and he used to stamp these out as part of his job. I have one with my initials on my keyring. It's been there for thirty years; these are sturdy little tags.

  41. I already have her as a fav on Etsy and liked on Facebook, and I just added to her blog and updates!!! I don't tweet or pinterest, yet! And I own some of her incredible pieces...she is truly a gem, herself!!!
    Both of my Grandfathers worked in the mines, one as an electrician, and my Italian Grandpa was a coal miner and Mom's family lived in a coal mining camp, where they had a store to get groceries.
    Being from WV, Coal Country, mining finds, are one of the things I love and try to collect, if not expensive!!!
