ReplyDeleteDo you have the front panel? Would the white look okay without that panel?
Try taping over the wood with cheap white tissue paper and see if you like the look first...
Then..GO FOR IT! Or not..!!:)

Paint it! Your accents will stand out so much better on a painted piano; in fact, why not get all crazy and paint it...turquoise or another amazing color!
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm all about paint, but I would take a different route in this situation. I like it the way the piano looks as is. The open top against your vintage wall covering is a great combo, but you have a lot of different wood tones going on around it. While looking at your picture, if you take your left finger and cover up the chair rail and your right hand and cover up the door, it totally changes the look. A dark walnut stain would look great on the chair rail(of course that would be an entire house project, but it would really look cool against your vintage sheets). I would paint the door and trim around it in a color most similar to the off-white in the papers to make it go away, that way your piano becomes more of a focal point. In your spare time ~ aren't you glad you asked?

ReplyDeleteJust say "NO"! I really believe that some of the beauty of the wood and the craftsman's ability to match veneers are what make these old pieces so lovely. That looks like "Tiger Oak" on your piano. I remember reading something about the trees that produce this beautiful grain not being grown anymore. I also see that it brings warmth to your decor. Too much white seems so chilling. Just love the look of the wood in combination with your awesome wall.

As someone who lived with a dark wood piano for years, I have to say PAINT IT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I agree with the majority to paint it. It is beautiful but I think painting it would give it a new personality in your room. I am all about old history treasures re invented into your home so go for it.

I think the white painted piano in the picture is pretty, but I think paint in the case of your piano would be a detriment. The contrast in colors of the woods and the exposed "bones" of the piano make it really interesting as it is. I think paint would definitely detract from the interesting things already going on with it.

Paint it....!!! I am in the process of lightening all of my furniture/house etc. I have a hard time dealing with winter where I live. It is pitch dark outside by 5:00 in the heart of winter. I need the inside to be light!!! It will be done as soon as we get our store done. (There is always a project!!!)
