Thursday's Theme - {Old School}

Don't chalkboards just say, "old school" to you?

When I was a kid, I loved being assigned the job of

banging the chalkboard erasers together to get some of the

dust out of them - it got me out of class and outdoors,

where I really wanted to be.

Once again, I've been working on chalkboard projects recently.

These aren't your usual "hang it on the wall" chalkboards though.

First up, I got a old wooden folding card table at an auction.

The table was pretty worn, so I lightly sanded it,

just enough to remove some of the loose varnish.

I wasn't going for a perfectly smooth surface,

because I wanted the table to have an old school, worn finish. 

I repainted the top with chalkboard paint.

 The top had some chipped areas and a small section where the
surface wood had rippled, so I just distressed those parts, along with the edges.
That really helped make it look like it has been used for years in a classroom.

 Other than freshening the sides and legs up with some stain and sealer,
I left the original finish the same, because it is wonderfully aged.
It sold quickly in my Etsy shop.

I also created a smaller wooden chalkboard folding table.

I painted it with CCC (CeCe Caldwell) paint on the edges

and legs and did chalkboard paint on the top.

I love the shape of the top.

Again, I distressed the edges for a worn appearance.
