My parents and I, and 3 of my 4 kids hit the road last weekend,
to go on the Spoon River Drive in Illinois.
The Spoon River Drive is a scenic drive through some
beautiful farm country and small towns, during the peek of
the prettiest display of fall colors. The small towns along
the route are filled with vendors selling handmade goods,
vintage items and lots of food and there are plenty of yard
sales to visit along the way as well.
Unfortunately, weather doesn't always cooperate with
outdoor events, so when we woke up to steady rain showers on Saturday,
we decided to wait until Sunday to go instead. The rain persisted on and off
throughout Sunday as well, so there weren't near as many vendors as usual,
but we still enjoyed the gorgeous scenery
and I brought home quite a few finds as well.
Most everything I picked up has been listed in my shop,
but this old wooden market basket is a keeper!
It looks so pretty lined with an old linen.
I think it would look so pretty filled with colorful canning jars full of fruits,
like apple butter, pumpkin pie filling, peaches, etc.
Too bad I'm not a gardener and don't have all those pretty foods in jars
(except the jar of apple butter that a friend gave me).
Oct. 19th is a special day, because my 3rd child (2nd son) turns 18!
It's hard to believe that 3 of my 4 children are now legal adults.
This boy is responsible for 98% of my gray hair, but in
his defense, he is the most like me, so I can only blame myself!
He's ornery, fun, slightly crazy and has a smile that melts my heart.
Happy birthday, Abram!
Blessings,

Aw! Happy Birthday to your young man, MOM!
ReplyDeleteIt is weird watching them become adults; but it is also a thing of wonder when you see them MATURING INTO ADULTHOOD and know that you did NOT raise a PERPETUAL YOUTH.
My children are grown...they take care of them selves...it is such a blessing to see.
enjoy these moments too. Pat
Oh what's a few gray hairs?

Your market basket is awesome. I drove up to Cleveland yesterday and the drive would have been a perfect Fall vision if not for the stupid rain. Happy Birthday to your son!
ReplyDeleteYour market basket is so autumnal and pretty.
