I feel a real sense of achievement about the graphics
I'm sharing with you today.
There are some of you, probably many you,
who are going to laugh when you hear why, but it's a
big deal to me. Why, you ask?
See this clock face? It is backgroundless (pretty sure that isn't a real word).

That means that you could layer that image over another image
and that little hole in the center will show the background behind it,
and not show white, as it appears to look.
Are you laughing yet? Those of you who are pros
with Photoshop and probably saying, "What took you so long, dork."
Or, as my son said, "This isn't rocket science, Mom."
I've homeschooled this boy, who is a senior this year, since he
still wet the bed and he acted like he had the dumbest mom
in the world when I asked for his help to learn to do this.
{Son...you may know Photoshop, but *I* taught you to read,
making your knowledge of Photoshop possible...so there.}
Granted, he had to repeat every step about 4 7 times,
but apparently he forgot how many times I repeated
myself during his spelling lessons.
Okay, I'll admit, sometimes I thought he was
the dumbest kid in the world too.
I did apologize to him for that and thanked him
for teaching me. I won't hold my breath waiting to
hear, "Thank you for teaching me to spell, Mom."
I digress. In the past, I'd scan an image, like this clock face,
then I'd use Paint to erase the background, but all that does
is make the background white, it doesn't truly remove it.
So if you wanted to layer the image on top of another one,
you'd end up with a clock with a white square around it,
not end up with a round clock with no background at all.
But, now....voila!
so when I layer it over another image...there's no little white box around the clock
and you can see the background where the little holes are!
I hate to learn to use anything new - that goes for
cameras, microwaves, and especially anything computer
or computer program related. It's amazing that I even
have this blog, because as any blogger knows, there's
a tremendous amount to learn.
If you've been doing things like this forever,
please don't tell me it isn't rocket science
and that every blogger in the world knows how to do it.
It IS rocket science to me!
It is somewhat time-consuming (at least for newbies like me),
to completely remove the background, so I can't promise
they'll all be like that, but I'll do my best for images
I think people may want to layer onto other backgrounds.
All that to say, here are a few clock faces and watch graphics
(backgroundless ones!) that I hope you enjoy!
To see more images I've posted in previous weeks,
click on the tab "Antique Graphics to Print", located under my header.
I've got more clock faces there, which I will edit as time permits.

Whenever I do something different...ie, make my own Blog header...I am stinkin' proud of myself too! I get it!!
ReplyDeleteAngie...I am super proud of you for figuring out (with son's help) how to do that...I certainly cannot! I, too, am proud to have a blog (even if it is supposedly the easiest kind to set up and maintain) because I am such a computer dummy. Thanks for sharing those images with us (so we won't have to do it ourselves).
ReplyDeleteYou should most certainly be proud. I have been wanting to learn Photoshop for a long while but haven't been brave enough to attempt. So true that they forget how many times we have/had to show them something before they learned it.
ReplyDeleteRuth
Well, *I* am proud of you! I have no idea how to do what you do!
ReplyDeleteGreat work Angie ... I am sure I can find a lot of uses for these.
ReplyDeleteBe proud.
Blessings,
Audrey Z.
