Get the Look - Antique Farmhouse Refectory Candelabra

Some of the "Get the Look" projects I choose
just to see how closely I can duplicate them, but some I choose
because I think they'd look good in my home.
This week's project I wanted for my home.

The inspiration for it came from this
Antique Farmhouse Refectory Candelabra,
which sold for $82 (it has sold out).

I decided to create a variation of it using only items I already had on hand.
I have lots of old wood and antique glass insulators,
so this seemed like a great way to use some of them.
My husband cut the holes in the wood for me.
I dry brushed white paint and distressed it, then added the eye screws
and some strips cut from an old canvas bag to hang it with.
I think this will be nice to use indoors or outdoors.
Although I have real candles burning in this photo,
for safety's sake, I'll use battery tea light candles in it normally,
since I used fabric, rather than metal chain.
It cost me nothing, since I already had everything I needed for the
project and just took about an hour of time from start to finish -
most of it was figuring out what parts to use.

  1. Ironically, I was thinkingat first that the first photo was of your inspiration piece! I like yours a THOUSAND time better!!! I especially like your insulators and your dry brushed white board. And, that is giving me some ideas, since I see those insulators around and have always thought they were kind of pretty, but never know what on earth I would do with them. Now I know! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I also think your one looks better....can see the love you put into it. We don't get glass insulators over here, but I think the small vintage fluted tin molds could work.

  3. That was just well....wonderful! Your piece is outstanding and I know other folks would love having one of your great creations. I also have never known how to use insulators and they are plentiful! Humm more yard sales here I come. thank you for sharing!
