What could be prettier than delicate, white linens hanging
on a clothesline, as the wind softly blows and the sunlight filters through them?
I've done plenty of drying on a clothesline for my family,
but rarely is the sight so pretty. Ours usually consists of mismatched towels,
underwear, and t-shirts. Right now, I don't even have a clothesline.
My husband took it down to put a pool in its place.
But still, the *idea* of white linens on the line
creates a beautiful mental picture, right?
Well, my husband installed new windows in our kitchen and
we have a beautiful view outside those windows.
While doing dishes last week, I started thinking about clotheslines
and the thought came to me that even if my family's laundry isn't
such a vision to behold, I could still enjoy that look by creating
a clothesline of lovely white linens as my window treatment.
I bought some flour sack towels at Walmart for under $5,
and sorted through some old linens I have, looking for the prettiest
solid white ones to use. No sewing was involved, because
I used a hot glue gun to connect the flour sack towels together
and just draped each piece over the pretty scrolled wood rod.
I picked up 4 of those old, long wooden rods for $1 at the auction months
ago and they came in handy now.
Here's the photo I showed you that became my inspiration.
Fresh, white linens...
soft, filtered sunlight...
a beautiful view...
my happy place.

Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I like this idea. I was thinking of making a hanky banner for the bedroom...but the use of clothes pins sounds like a lovely idea. I was hanging out the laundry the other and noticed some of my old pins were being used. Pins I've had so long...they are small and worn. I've had them for over 16 years! Yes! ...I was thinking I should put them in a jar and shelve them. Maybe I'll use them for an inside job!
ReplyDeletelove the ideas you have...AND THAT THEY'RE DIRT CHEAP! ;) Pat
Yep I knew it! You had something pretty and crafty up your sleeve!

Adorable and the perfect way to display some pretty items.
ReplyDeleteLovely idea. My sink is not at a window, but I have a vintage window with paintings on the wall in front of the sink to create a faux view. I could hang a clothesline between the cabinets on either side of the sink and hang some of my vast collection of vintage linens with clothes pins. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI can honestly say I've never been inspired to do much while looking at things hanging on the clothes line. I'm not even inspired to hang the stuff or take it off. Yours is a true creative mind or else you're insane.
