So, which do you want to know first- -
whether my experiment worked, or what my husband said about it?
I'll start with the porch posts. I'm happy with how they turned out.
I'm not sure that they look like chippy, really old porch posts,
but they certainly don't look like I just bought them this week either,
which is the look I didn't want. I wanted the battered, weathered and aged look.
I picked off the larger chunks of sand and wax in some areas,
and used sandpaper in others. I think the remaining sand helps
give them an older look. These are actually "flat" posts,
meaning one side is cut flat so they can be mounted against a wall.
So...what did my husband say about it?
Well, he didn't say he thought I'd been sniffing paint too long.
With a massive amount of little prompting, he did say I was a genius.
When I asked him what method he thought I used
to achieve this look, his response was,
(if you don't have a sense of humor...click away quickly...)
"You peed on it?"
Sadly...I live with these kind of comments every.single.day.
If it weren't for you all...there'd be no sense of normal in my life.
Now, I just need to badger him relentlessly ask him sweetly to get them hung this week.
Blessings,
Angie

Sounds like something my hubby would say too!
ReplyDeleteHa ha!! He may be on to something! Works to keep bunnies out of the garden.....or so I'm told.
ReplyDeleteYour husband's reply cracked me up. I deal with my husband comments and my two sons comments-thank goodness I now have a new daughter-in-law who "gets me".I am looking forward to seeing your porch posts hung. The finish you achieved is really authentic looking.
ReplyDeleteYou achieved what you were after Angie, amazing... can't wait to see it up.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope we get to meet the hubz one day; who cracks us up everytime you mention one of his funny comments:)

I'm worried. When a man calls a woman a genius they expect something in return, and if the likes of me brings some normal to your life, you are really in trouble!
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
The posts look great. Genius idea!! :) I too deal with a sarcastic hubby, so I'm right there with ya!
ReplyDeleteyou are no alone...if that makes you feel any better ;)
ReplyDeleteAn idea....try LIGHTLY adding a little paint stripper in a few places, but don't help the paint off. Let it dry. It might give you a little more of that raised paint thing I think you are wanting. Just a thought. They look great as they are, but I can sense you want more. Try it on the flat back part and see what happens.
ReplyDeleteYour Posts turned out awesome! I must try this technique. thanks for sharing!

Hey Angie!!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a wonderful job on those! GREAT IDEA! Oh I want to see what you're up to with those lovelies!!
BUT...You MUST, HAVE TO, Don't you even think of quitting...trying to find out who owns that old farmhouse!!! Just think...try the county land office or something! You might score REALLY BIG with the stuff on and in that house...maybe they want to just get rid of that old house and you could score with all that trim and stuff and sell it to me!! Well, maybe a few things could end up here from your etsy store!!
Anyway, don't give up!
Hugs,
Doni
Hi Angie, I love how your posts turned out. Great idea to use sand and wachs. Your hubby's guess what you used cracked me up :-). Funny guy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday!
Hugs,
Julia
ahhh thats genius!! im so pinning this!
ReplyDeleteROFLOL! Sounds a bit like my partner. He'll whine and complain about the time I spend in junk shops, or the growing collection of 'crap' in the shed, but the other day I heard him tell someone how my constant creativity astounds him. :)
ReplyDeleteWow! The posts look amazing! I love the extra "tweaking" you did between posting yesterday's pics and today's. Great job!:)
ReplyDeleteYour husband's "guess" was hysterical--it made my day! You are so funny, too; I picture the two of you sitting around for hours on end cracking each other up!
xoxo
That is so something my man would say too!
ReplyDeleteI love them :)
