Where Bloggers Create

I've seen so many beautiful work spaces and offices in the last week that are participating
in the "Where Bloggers Create" party at My Desert Cottage.

I wish I could show you my beautiful, inspirational space where I create,
but I don't have one.  Oh...I have a space where I create, but it's anything but
beautiful and inspirational.  It's really not even functional at the moment,
but just so you can see what I true slob I can be, here it is, in all it's glory.

This is my "office".
In my defense, it looks even worse than normal because I removed a large
counter that held a lot of the junk you see stacked all over, because I may
be using it for another space.  But...it's still bad.  I don't have any air
conditioning, so I actually haven't worked in there at all in several weeks -
it's just too blessed hot.  I share this space with wasps.
I want you to know - I'm not incapable of organization, I just don't want to take the time to do it.
Most of my days are spent taking photos for my shop listings, packing and shipping, answering emails, working on the remodeling inside our house and blogging.  After doing all that, the last thing I feel like doing is cleaning and organizing a hot, messy office.  But, if you don't believe me, it looked like
this before all the remodeling started inside our house last November.  All right, I admit, I think I took
this photo about 10 minutes after moving the desk in the room (which is an outbuilding) when we moved in, but it was clean and organized for at least a week.
 This is my sweatshop workshop.
It looks like it should be declared a disaster by FEMA.
As you can see, I have a chair addiction and no place to go with them,
so chairs and parts of chairs are stacked on my counter.  They've been a second level shelf.
I got boxes and boxes full of books and magazines last fall, that stack is just
a small portion of the magazines.  Believe it or not, I've gotten rid of most of them,
this is just the stack I haven't gone through yet.
I had such good intentions for it when we moved in.
I thought that having my own workshop would be like a creative dream come true.
I had this big, blank slate to work in - it was going to be wonderful.
I was even going to use that walk in cooler as a paint booth.
And then I moved in...and went to lots of auctions.
Why did I think I needed 6 bed head and footboards?
I have no idea, but they were such a good deal, surely I'll think of something, right?
I actually may do something with them this week...possibly.
More junk and a 7th headboard.
Finding what I need is often like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I have a door addiction too, but thankfully I've found uses for all but the one you see at the back.
Well, that's the grand tour of where I create...or where I'd like
to create, if I ever get the mess cleaned up.
Until then, I'm making new messes creating inside my house.

I'll be back later today to announce the winners of my
blog birthday giveaways.  I promised my youngest son he could draw
one of the names, and forgot to do it before he went to bed last night.
It's 3am now, so once I crawl out of bed in the morning, I'll have him
do it and will let you know who won what.

Blessings,
Angie

  1. Hehehehe, I think there are more bloggers that have creative spaces like you and did not have the heart or guts to show us. I too have a chair and table problem, but I keep them in separate spaces than where I create.

  2. Angie,
This cracked me up !! You definitely told it like it is. I think most creative work spaces actually look more like this because after all, we are supposed to be working in them right? I threw all my boxes of flowers and ribbons and other stuff out in the hallway when I photographed my Craft Room!! LOL!
I do not have an air conditoner in there either and a fan is just not cutting it in this heat so most of the time, I have been working down on the Dining Room table in the air conditioning , in front of the Tv which I can see into the Living Room!! When I am using Modge Podge (and I have been doing a lot of that lately), Joe says that smell makes him nauseated! LOL!!
I just loved your honesty with this post!!
We all need that every now and again..

    Hugs,
    Deb

  4. You are so brave! I was going to photograph my office, but the whole idea of dusting and arranging it was killing me, so I just gave up on the idea. Never thought to go au naturale. I love to have things at my fingertips too. If it's in a drawer or filed away I never think about it again!

  8. Well finally someone who would show how it is...my dining room is now a fabric storage for the moment until I can move to spare bedroom......I will have to show my mess too with you as inspiration...I see the wonderful work room you have...lots of it and look at that wood, wow I love it. A beautiful place to work...it has been unseasonably hot this year making it hard to do what we normally do. The space you have lucky girl....the paint booth I am familiar with my dad and brothers work on cars and have paint booth....I think you are one lucky woman to have such a space to work in and I love it....

  9. Wow - thought you'd come to my house for those pictures!!! I get the guilt feelings about the chaos in my studio too (my second bedroom in a small condo) but I can't part with anything I have because I will use it eventually. I do plan to move everything out when it's cooler and try to re-arrange when I put it all back in. In the meantime I've borrowed a large folding table from a friend and set it up in my living room and I am creating on that now. My living room now looks worse than my studio but I am getting lots done!!
FYI...my friend owns a quilt shop and she uses the old bed frames to hang quilts - just hangs the frames high on the walls and attaches the quilts along the bottom - got any quilt shops in your area??
    Thanks for sharing!

  10. Um, the basement is where I'm supposed to work on stuff, but, I can hardly walk around down there. We must be sisters because we seem to have the same kind of work environment! My problem is summers are too short! Four summers ago I broke my arm and couldn't navigate without pain, then the next summer my husband was in the hospital, and last summer my daughter got married. NOW, it's too hot and I'm lazy! And school will be starting in a month. I think I need to retire in order to play! Thanks for sharing our reality.♥♫

  11. I think bloggers, writers, could possibly have a 'hoarding' tendency. I myself have 10 years of Martha Stewart Living and as many Victoria magazines. I will surely find a use for them???? Well, as long as you can still close the door on it you are OK. Best, Lisa

  12. It's so easy to let your space look like that in this business. Often times things are coming in so much faster than they're going out! Just wanted to say- I get it!

  13. Loved this post friend!! I have a workspace just like this with a whole corner full of wonderful junk-furniture just waiting to get prettied up. Maybe next year I'll do a post on that! You have some wonderful pieces in that there workspace of yours! And I can see this space being a really neat place someday if you wanted to doll it up a bit. We just don't have time for all the things we want to do!

  14. I LOVE how you're 'keeping it real'!! I have a basement that pretty much looks like this, as I'm always bringing in things for my shop, or collecting things for myself, or storing projects waiting to be worked on, etc...it's nice to know that I'm not alone!

  17. Angie, you are my kind of gal. My space is usually a mine field that must be navigated carefully to avoid falling. I cleaned it up for this creating party but it still looks like @#!$.

  18. Haha - looks like my space. I have way more ideas and stuff for when I get to those ideas than I have time to create. Thanks for the honesty now I know I'm not the only one.

  20. I LOVE it!! I am always a little sad when I see the pretty work spaces others have that look nicer than my living room. I like your style and attitude and no one can say that the 'clutter' is stunting your creativity and output!!

  21. Love it !! So happy to see someone who creates in a space more like mine While I do OH SO enjoy the "eye candy", I was getting a bit sad seeing all the neat and tidy, spit shined, painted, organized, and well staged spaces ... I knew there had to be some of "us" out there !! :) Thanks for sharing I enjoyed my visit; you made me feel right at home :) p.s. when Terry (above) finishes getting you organized I'd love to have her for about a month
