This is Gonna Hurt a Little

If the kitchen is the heart of the home,

my kitchen is desperately in need of CPR.

Our kitchen is ugly - no two ways about it.

It got even uglier today - which I didn't think was possible.

Sadly, things often have to get worse before they get better.

Here's how it looked before we moved in.

 Extremely dated and fairly disgusting when you look closely.   

My husband is demolishing this section of the room,

in an attempt to "heal" this poor old, outdated room.

It's kind of like getting a bad tooth pulled,

you know you'll feel better when it's done,

but it stinks while you're going through it.

Our plan is to take out the window, which is very small,

and replace it with 2 windows that will

form a corner window, to open

up the view outdoors and bring more light into the room.

These old pine cabinets have been

here for about 20 years too long.  They gotta go.

(side note...there were THREE

mouse carcasses found under these cabinets).

I hope you've already finished your supper,

or I probably ruined your appetite.

And then there's the walls.

There were 2 layers of ugly he

needed to tear out - pink from the 50's or 60's

and mottled looking "something" from the 70's

that got slapped over the top of it

(and I do mean slapped - there are screws, tape, etc.

holding it on the wall).

Are you screaming in agony yet?

Well, now we are down to the studs and insulation.

Still painful, but I can almost imagine

it's a rustic cabin in a forest...

IF I harness every ounce of imagination in my body.

I mean, from a distance, that insulation

almost looks like chinking, right?

Just stand about 2 miles away and you

might be able to visualize it.

And then there's the floor.

There are 3 layers of linoleum sandwiched between

3 layers of wood underlay.

Yes...he'll be wearing a face mask to tear all

that dangerous stuff out.

There should be some kind of anesthetic available to

help you survive remodeling.  I need a massive shot of one.
