Think BIG - Focal Points

I brought home a set of
oversize fork and spoon utensils,
and it got me thinking about decorative goods
that really grab your attention when you enter a room.

If you've got the right space for it,
sometimes less is more by decorating
with just one or two large statement pieces,
rather than lots of smaller, busy items.

Sometimes a grouping of small items,
spaced closely together give the
appearance of a large focal point.

Even if you don't have a large
space, that doesn't mean you can't
use a large item for a focal point.

We had this narrow hallway,
that was hard to decorate,
so I just used a large, old wooden door as a focal point.
It works for the space and because
this hallway isn't well-lit,  it stands out more than smaller
things on the wall would have.

Do you have any large,
"HERE I AM" pieces in your home?

It's nice to think BIG!

Blessings,

I can frequently be found visiting these parties.

  5. Oh Angie, My Dad was in the Air Force and brought home these large fork and spoon along with a huge brass plate. I HATED them growing up on our wall and my grandma's wall. I think they would work well with a rustic paint treatment on them now. I adore the door at the end of your hall...this house or previous?

  7. Thanks to my Dad's woodworking skills there are large walnut and cherry wooden buttons and a clothespin the size of a baseball bat. Gave him pics from PB and he always thrilled me with the results. Also have the safety pins from Ballard and a primitive domino box from Wisteria. Whimsical things make me happy.

  10. Love the oversize safety pins. I posted the oversized letter on my blog a while ago. It's from Southern Living here: http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/craftsman-style-home-decorating-ideas-00400000064639/page6.html I find the sources of 99% of what's on the web by using google search image installed as an app on my computer :) It's a great tool to have.

  11. Loved all of the inspirations photos! The door at the end of your hall is such a great piece. I just imagined how usually someone might just hang some pictures on that wall and call it a day, but this is something that grabs attention and can be changed up with different little decorations for each season too! LOVE. I'm your newest member, if you have a moment I'd love it if you visited me at AllThatBringsJoy.blogspot.com :)

  14. Right now on my desk I have the lamps made to look like huge thumb tacks on a corkboard cube.
I have an oversized crayon leaning against a wall. Another one of FJI's posts is of a spool table but I think I can turn it into a thread spool, if I can find a giant needle.

  15. Hey Angie - the safety pins caught my eye - but the door you show is my first pin on Pinterest that was not on my own blog (when I joined last night). Love the idea of the door. I'm now looking about wondering where I really could do that! (I have a small house and it's pretty full but I'm thinkin' about it!) I'm traveling with Liz on Time Travel Thursdays. See ya later.
