We've got this mantle..ish thing
in the living room of our new house.
u. g. l. y.
by any standard.
I didn't want to put a single thing on it,
until the extremely dark, glossy finish was GONE,
so a friend came over and we painted it Antique White.
I could barely stand to let the paint dry
before I had fun filling it up.
I really filled it up too!
I really filled it up too!

My Grandfather's Hymnals
I've rearranged it half a dozen times,
but here's how it looks today.
of 300 projects that need to be done.
but here's how it looks today.
Those dark pieces below the bottom shelf
are the covers off an 1800's Bible that
was completely falling apart.
They don't photograph well, but they are
really lovely, old leather and
are pretty close up.
If I can talk my husband into it,
the pages of the Bible will be repurposed
for another project that hopefully I'll show you soon.
Now I can check project #3 off the listof 300 projects that need to be done.
Blessings,

Wow! That is certainly a 100% improvement! The miracle of paint...I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the new painted shelves. This will be so much fun to decorate and re-decorate and seasonal changes...oh yes lots of fun. hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat great collectibles you've arranged on the painted shelves - the shelves receded and the collectibles take front and centre.

I dare say that you have the touch in decorating and placing items. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation! It looked so cold and lonely before! Paint, elbow grease and your great collections really MAKE it!

Love all your collections - the shelves look great now. I have a falling apart Bible very similar to yours (Actually 2). I am still trying to figure out what to do with the beautiful covers but here is a link to a project I used some of the pages for -
