So, to celebrate 1 year in business yesterday,
I went to an estate auction.
Actually, I didn't need a reason to go to the auction -
I would have gone anyway,
but this sounds like a valid excuse for my behavior.
I completely maxed out my van and my daughter's car
and had to tie a shelf on the roof of the van.
My living room looks like it has a hangover.
Excuse the min pin - she had to come sniff everything.
I stayed 5 hours - almost til the proverbial band went home,
and ran up quite the "bar tab".
I'm sure you already spotted my favorite item, didn't you?
Yeah, you guessed it.
A 1900's Underwood Standard typewriter - a big one.
I planned to bid on it for resale,
although I would dearly love to keep it for myself,
but my soon-to-be 21 year old son was with me
and commented that he'd love to have it.
Sssshhhhh....it'll be a birthday or Christmas present for him!
I'm really hoping he'll decide to put it in our living room,
instead of his room.
And I also hope he doesn't move out anytime soon
and take it with him.
I'll struggle with envy whenever I visit him.
My husband hid it in the shed so my son
won't realize I bought it, so I'll just have to
enjoy looking at the photos for now.
He also wanted some old soda bottles,
so I got those too, as well as a Charles Dickens book he liked
and a wooden coat tree.
I'm keeping some of these old doorknobs.
I love this pair of men's old ice skates
with their wooden blade covers.
And isn't this antique egg beater sweet?
It's missing the wood handle, but I think it's adorable.
It's dated 1891 (looks like 1681 from the direction of the photo).
And I will not be going to any more auctions next week.
There's just so much celebrating
my husband will let me get away with.
Kidding aside...I'm not a partier.
It's a good thing.
I clearly lack some self-control.
But, I may be visiting these parties this week...

Love your Underwood typewriter...I learned to type on one of that vintage era, gave it to my girlfriend to learn to type on, kicked myself for letting it go, so found another one just like it, bought it and still have it. I hope your son lives at home for a long time so you can continue to enjoy it. Hugs, Gayle.
ReplyDeleteLove the old type-writer! I bought one a while back, and only paid $4.00 for it, but it is not nearly as old and beautiful, or as big as yours.
ReplyDeleteWOW, I love it all--and your typewriter is amazing!!!
