that was broken
and had a $5 price tag.
The drawers were lovely,
with 8 great handles on them,
This piece was at the bottom of the dresser.
Really pretty scalloped shape.
I painted it Delicate White.
I knew I wanted to turn it into a sign,
but I kid you not,
I spent the next 2 hours trying to decide what to put on it.
First I went through my entire stack of antique magazines,
looking at ads for inspiration.
I loved tons of them, but none of them seemed right.
Next, I looked online for inspiration.
Still nothing.
Next, I got out a phone book from the 40's
and saw an ad for a Dairy.
Bingo! A dairy sign it would be.
None of my stencils seemed like the right font,
so I printed one out and used transfer paper to draw the lines.
Have a farm fresh day!
so I printed one out and used transfer paper to draw the lines.
Black Acrylic paint with a tiny paintbrush to fill in the letters.
Palm sander to accent the age it already had. There was too much leftover space, so I added,
"From the Farm....To Your Door"
on the sides, then added
Valspar Antique Glaze and clear Minwax to protect it.
I love using salvaged wood, with all its
dings, dents and rough edges.
It has authentic worn character,
and paint just accents that age beautifully.
Have a farm fresh day!
