Excited now, we moved on to yank out the same carpet in our bedroom, which is a mirror image of the living room, sharing one wall.
Well...although also lovely in spots, this floor had suffered more abuse and regardless of how much sanding we did, it just wasn't looking as hopeful.
We also discovered something else that made steam come out of my ears and I'm pretty sure my eyes were throwing flames. A year after moving in the house, we hired a company to install central heat and air. I wasn't home most of the day they did their work, but was frustrated with them several times for some dumb things they did, but THIS was unexcusable.
So, all that to say, this floor wasn't going to end up as lovely as the living room did. We decided to paint it instead. My bedspread was dark, autumn colors, so we went with cocoa bean brown.
So, we ended up with this...
While I don't "oh-my-gosh-love-it"...it's a whole lot better than the carpet. I'm actually thinking about lightly sanding over the floor again, so it has a worn, walked on look, instead of a freshly painted look. It may take awhile to convince my husband to move and remove furniture for me to do it though.

I think it's a lovely room.
ReplyDeleteAs we have found along our remodeling road, there are definitely some people who should not be allowed to own houses. I could tell you horror stories about what we found while remodeling the kitchen of our 1973 ranch.
When we moved in we removed all of the old (and disgusting) carpeting, hoping against all hope that there might be wood flooring underneath (as many ranch homes have). No such luck for us. We laid new carpeting, which hasn't held up well at all (even though it was a well researched higher end name brand), and I can't wait to remove it and lay cork or bamboo. I'll never have carpeting again.
